Beds for Backs recognise the valuable advice of health professionals and seek to forge working relationships with practitioners and their patients to make sure the highest quality solutions are available to suit the individual circumstances.
As many of our customers inform us as well as a number of health professionals we have spoken with, one of the most common questions posed to the health professional is:
What sort of bed should I be sleeping on?
An obvious question, but one that is not easily answered by the majority of health professionals. When Beds for Backs investigated this situation it was discovered that many health professionals advised us they were asked by up to 90% of patients the same questions.
It is an unfortunate circumstance that there is a strong perception, because you have a sore back you should be sleeping on a firm bed…not necessarily so. It is now being recognised that the true interpretation of this statement is that you should not sleep on a mattress that is too soft and has deteriorated in the middle so the “hammocking” effect is pronounced…so in this instance you should be sleeping on a firmer bed…not a soft bed.
To support effectively a bed must provide varied support along the body
But even this interpretation requires clarification as demonstrated in other sections of this website. Firm or soft, a bed can not support the human form effectively unless the level of support is varied along the body to compensate for the varying weight and shape profiles as concluded by the independent testing.

As bedding does not form a notable part of the professional training curricula in many tertiary institutions, Beds for Backs have developed a Professional Development Seminar for health professionals.
