10 Steps on how to select the right bed!

Discover the solutions to a Perfect Night Sleep

Beds for Backs have the mattress and base systems that can perform all of the below points…and the results of independent medical, scientific and engineering research to prove that the claims of improved posture and reduced peak pressure are actual and not just marketing tricks.

It may sound unbelievable...but we offer the choice of a bed systems suited to your individual requirements without the cost of making a purpose built bed... so call into one of our showroom to discover the secret to your perfect night sleep.

Step 1 – Your Bed is a health aid helping improve your wellbeing
Consider your bed to be a health-aid and not merely a piece of furniture. If chosen properly, it can improve both your health and your quality of life.

Step 2 – Your Bed must provide the right support custom to your body
The “FEEL” of the bed is important... but you must understand it is only part of the answer to a perfect night sleep. So don’t buy a bed just because it feels comfortable. Also consider the ability of the bed to give you the right support. For more points on how to choose a bed based on the comfort of the bed, read the information on Buying Guide-Comfort page.

Step 3 – Your Bed must adjust to body shape and support your correct posture
Your bed MUST be able to both – adjust to your individual body shape and support YOUR BODY with correct posture and spinal alignment. Read the Buying Guide –Support page on how different levels of mattresses help support your body and help ‘resting’ it, instead of ‘stressing’ your body.

Step 4 – Your Bed must allow for correct weight distribution
The “bed system” must be able to recognize the fact that ‘the weight distribution along your body’ is NOT in proportion to ‘the shape along your body’ and therefore should have a mechanism by which it is able to be adjusted to your shape and weight distribution as well as that of your Partner – Equally Well. More information is provided on Beds Range – “Under Mattress Variable Corrective Support page.

Step 5 – Your bed must minimise partner disturbance
Make sure that the “bed system” DOES NOT allow “roll-together” and MUST minimise partner disturbance. For further information on Partner Disturbance and how it can be minimised read Buying Guide – Partners.

Step 6 – Your bed must eliminate high pressure spots
The “bed system” MUST minimise (if not eliminate) high pressure spots. Read the case studies on Bed Research & Testing Results page which provides important scientific insight on how a quality mattress can help reduce peak pressure points, particularly a t hips and shoulders and provide increased support in the lower back improving spinal posture.

Step 7 – Do your research before buying the bed
Make sure you do your homework. You spend almost a third of your life in your bed. So selecting the “right bed” MUST be based on a good understanding of how a bed is made and what YOUR BODY needs. (Not just some technical sounding word and unproven promises from the salesperson) Take some time to browse other sections of this website and gain the insight you need to make the right choice for the next 8 – 10 years of sleep.

Step 8 – Your Bed must provide Restorative Sleep levels
Make sure that your bed can help you achieve ‘good, deep Restorative Sleep levels – regularly throughout the night.’ So you can feel ‘fresh and rested’ the next day. See our Healthy Sleep page for information on how a correct bed can help with poor circulation, sore hips, back problems and stiff neck, interrupted breathing, partner disturbance such as snoring, restlessness and rolling. Also Healthy Sleep addresses how correct bed can assist in people with workplace and sporting injuries.

Step 9 – Your Bed features must actually work
When selecting a bed to help with specific health problems... take your time, get a full explanation, identify that the features actually do work and are not just promises. Please allow approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour when you visit Beds for backs to ensure your Sales Consultant has adequate time to address your particular needs.

Step 10 – Your Bed must cater to your body changing to last a long time
Remember that your new bed will have to last you for the next 10 years or more during which time your body will change... so choose a bed that is good for your body as it is now and also as it may be in 2, 5 and 10+ years time.
